Circa 1780

An antique verge fusee quarter repeating pair cased pocket watch by Eardley Norton of London.

This George III period English verge fusee pocket watch with quarter repeating mechanism was made by this extremely eminent maker.  The gilded full plate movement is signed and numbered.  The balance cock is finely pierced and engraved and is set with a diamond endstone.  The fine engraving continues around the silvered disc regulator.  The repeat mechanism is set in motion by pushing the pendant and sounds the quarters and hours on two inner bells.

The time is displayed via blued steel hands to the enamel dial which is set out with Roman hour chapter ring and conventional minute numbering.  The dial is signed "Eardley Norton - London".
