Benjamin Gray of London
Circa
1710
An early silver pair cased verge fusee pocket watch with
champleve dial by Benjamin Gray of London - an important Royal Watchmaker.
This
wonderful early pocket watch is signed to the deep full plate gilded
verge fusee movement, and numbered using the letter code initiated
by Benjamin Gray, and subsequently continued by his son-in-law, Justin
Vulliamy. There is a finely pierced, engraved & chased balanced
cock with a large screwed-in diamond endstone; pierced & engraved
decoration around the silver disc regulator, and worm & wheel
barrel set-up between the plates, which are supported on square baluster
pillars.
The time is displayed via blued steel beetle & poker
hands to the silver champleve dial which is signed "Gray - London".
The
silver pair cases are as close to mint condition as is possible to
get and carry the casemaker's mark - AR.
