Daniel Manly of London

Circa 1680

An early silver sun and moon pair cased verge pocket watch with champleve dial by Daniel Manly of London.

This extremely rare seventeenth century pocket watch has a signed and numbered full plate gilded movement supported by pierced tulip pillars, a finely engraved & pierced balance cock, foot & surround to the silver disc regulator, a chain fusee, and worm & wheel barrel set-up between the plates.

The silver champleve dial has Roman hour numeral markings in a half sector with conventional outer minute markings.  The lower half of the dial is signed "D Manly - London" to a cartouche centred by finely engraved mythical birds.  The hours are displayed by a disc revolving in the upper aperture showing the hours of day or night, and the minutes via the original blued steel hands.

The silver pair cases carry the marks for casemaker Cuthbert Weaver - CW.
