Daniel Manly was apprenticed in 1650 to Gilpin, a celebrated early maker.  Daniel Manly was elected to the Clockmakers Company in 1660 and moved to Norwich around 1680.

Camerer Cuss notes:
 
Watches with 'sun and moon' dials are extremely scarce.  The sun is depicted in one half, and the moon on the other, of a disc revolving once every 24 hours, and each is visible in turn indicating the hour.
