Longcase Clocks
John Collier of Cheadle

Circa 1800

A rather better than average Regency period north country eight-day longcase clock in mahogany with painted dial by John Collier.

This example has a high quality well-detailed mahogany case of strong proportions and an interesting architectural style. The flame veneers have developed a lovely faded colour, and the use of ebony, satinwood and yew tree detailing accentuate the bold elegance of this very original clock. The height is 87 inches excluding the finials.

The movement has been fully overhauled to the highest standard, is of eight-day duration and sounds the hours on a bell. The original weights and pendulum are retained.

The square painted dial has floral corners on a gilt ground and subsidiary seconds & date dials, and is signed "Jn Collier – Cheadle".
