Longcase Clocks
|
Thomas Milner of
London
Circa 1740
A rare George II period blue lacquer longcase
clock by this highly regarded London clockmaker - Thomas Milner.
The
blue lacquered case stands 100 inches high with caddy top and stands
on a double plinth. The case is decorated with raised gesso
Chinoiserie pagodas and pavillions.
The brass dial has a silvered
chapter ring, subsidiary seconds dial and a date aperture for the
day of the month. The signature "Thos Milner - London" is engraved
on a boss in the arch which is framed by dolphin spandrels.
The five pillar eight day movement is of high quality as befits a
member of the Clockmakers Company to which Thomas was elected in 1739.
