Circa 1740
A rare George II period blue lacquer longcase clock by this highly regarded London clockmaker
- Thomas Milner.
The blue lacquered case stands 100 inches high with caddy top and stands on a double plinth. The case
is decorated with raised gesso Chinoiserie pagodas and pavillions.
The brass dial has a silvered chapter ring, subsidiary seconds
dial and a date aperture for the day of the month. The signature "Thos Milner - London" is engraved on a boss in the arch which
is framed by dolphin spandrels. The five pillar eight day movement is of high quality as befits a member of the Clockmakers
Company to which Thomas was elected in 1739.
