Longcase Clocks
|
James Hargrave of Bawtry
Circa
1795
A small elegant oak and mahogany longcase clock of eight-day
duration with painted dial by James Hargrave.
This example has
an elegant oak case with mahogany trim and crossbanding. The hood
boasts a swan-necked pediment over a panel displaying specimen woods
– a most unusual feature and fluted columns. The long trunk door has
ebony stringing and a Sheraton style inlay as has the base. The height
is 86 inches excluding the finials.
The movement has been fully
overhauled to the highest standard and is of eight-day duration striking
the hours on a bell.
The arched painted dial has a rural scene
to the arch, well-decorated spandrels and a subsidiary seconds dial.
